Around the hotel

Located between Munich’s old town and Nymphenburg Palace, Novotel München City Arnulfpark’s well-situated address makes it the perfect base for sightseeing and walking tours in Bavaria’s capital.

Imposing Nymphenburg Palace, the former summer residence of the Wittelsbach royal family, is within easy reach of Novotel München City Arnulfpark. After a long working day, relax in the Baroque palace’s impressive landscaped gardens, or stroll with your family amid canals, fountains and cascades. Plant lovers will enjoy the greenhouses and flowerbeds, with the Botanical Gardens located on the northern edge of the park. Nymphenburg Palace is only a 7-minute tram ride from Novotel München City Arnulfpark – ideal even if you’ve only got time for a quick visit!

Between the hotel and Nymphenburg Palace you’ll find the Hirschgarten, once a hunting ground for nobility that’s now home to fallow deer and mouflon wild sheep. The park’s hilly meadows are ideal for tobogganing in winter, and in summer, playground and barbecue areas offer enjoyment for all the family. Bavaria’s largest beer garden is also in the Hirschgarten, only a few minutes’ walk from Novotel München City Arnulfpark. It’s the perfect spot to sample Bavaria’s famous Gemütlichkeit over a well-earned beer after a successful day’s work.

Bavarian beer and Weißwurst sausages are Munich’s culinary trademarks, and you won’t have to go far to find one of the city’s iconic beer halls. The famous Augustiner-Keller, for example, is only a kilometre from Novotel München City Arnulfpark. It’s a relaxed stroll back to your hotel after a hearty evening of beer and sausages. And if you’re in Munich for the Oktoberfest, the Theresienwiese (also known locally as the Wies’n), is just 20 minutes from your hotel.

Novotel München City Arnulfpark puts you within easy reach of the wealth of culture and shopping on offer in Munich’s old town, the Altstadt. A 10-minute tram ride gets you to the transport hub Karlsplatz (Stachus). From there you can stroll the pedestrian shopping strip, past Munich’s signature church – the Frauenkirche – to Marienplatz (the main square). Figures from the city’s history emerge several times daily from the Glockenspiel at the Neo-Gothic town hall, the Neues Rathaus. And nearby there’s another attraction the kids will love: the Spielzeugmuseum, which exhibits toys from more than two centuries. Round off your walk through the old town by checking out masterpieces from Albrecht Dürer to modern artists of the 20th century at the Pinakothek museums, or with the tempting culinary delights on offer at the market stalls of the famous Viktualienmarkt.

A sightseeing tour is a comfortable way to take in Munich’s many highlights. Double-decker buses travelling on several routes offer a fun ride for the whole family. Buses leave from the main station, München Hauptbahnhof, which just a 6-minute tram ride from Novotel München City Arnulfpark.

What would Munich be without its famous football team, FC Bayern München? Experience football at its finest with family or with colleagues, in the uniquely iconic and atmospheric Allianz Arena. For selected games, a free shuttle bus from Donnersbergerbrücke, just a few minutes’ walk from Novotel München City Arnulfpark, will get you to and from the stadium.
